Evergreen Line plazas done by this summer, says Provincial government

Evergreen line projected to cost even more money – Apr 25, 2016

Construction will begin in a couple of weeks to finish the Evergreen Line station plazas, which will be completed by the end of summer, according to the Provincial government.

Minister Responsible for TransLink, Peter Fassbender, explains the Evergreen Line Project is currently 85 per cent complete and the station plaza construction will continue until fall 2016.

He says the project is “on time and on budget,” adding the line will be in service in early 2017.

However, the opening was originally scheduled more than 18 months ago, which was expected to be completed by the fall of 2016.

Linda Reimer, MLA for Port Moody-Coquitlam says she understands how important the line is for residents.

“As a resident of this community, I understand how vital this $1.43 billion rapid transit project is in terms of meeting population growth and connecting our tri-cities communities to the Metro Vancouver transit network.”

MP Ron Macennan echoed Reimer’s thoughts adding this is an important milestone, “Our government recognizes that investing in infrastructure is essential to equipping municipalities with the building blocks they need to support economic growth.”

He says this kind of investment helps the community in more than one way. He adds it helps develop the economy and strengthen community ties.

The 10.9 kilometre project will link Port Moody, Coquitlam and Burnaby to Vancouver.
