EDMONTON – Students at Montrose Elementary School will head back to class on Monday despite a health concern arising on Friday.
On Sunday, an official with the Public School Board told Global News some students were relocated Friday afternoon after experiencing eye irritation.
Fire crews along with Epcor officials were called to the school Friday but neither were able to determine a cause.
The school was given the all-clear by noon that day.
A family member of a student at the school told Global News as many as 25 children suddenly became ill with symptoms that included red eyes and trouble breathing. At least one student was taken to hospital for treatment.
A spokesperson with Occupational Health and Safety told Global News they are planning to speak with school officials about the incident on Monday.
Officials with Alberta Health Services declined to comment on Sunday.
Montrose School is located in the Highland neighbourhood near 62 Street and 119 Avenue.
