Global News Calgary was honoured with awards in five different categories at the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) Canada’s Prairie Regional Awards in Medicine Hat, Alta. Saturday night.
Global News Calgary won the Gord Sinclair Award for live special events for Decision Alberta 2015, its coverage of the historic 2015 provincial election won by the Alberta NDP, ending the Progressive Conservative party’s 44 years in power. The election special included work from employees of both Global News Edmonton and Global News Lethbridge.

The newsroom also won the Adrienne Clarkson Award for diversity for Witness Blanket, Jill Croteau’s report on an art project aimed at remembering Canada’s residential school system.
Global News Calgary also won the Bert Cannings Award (Large Market) for best newscast for its coverage of the Stadium Plaza Fire, a massive blaze that destroyed six businesses and sent two firefighters to hospital.

Global Calgary’s Heather Yourex-West won the Dave Rogers Award (Large Market) for short feature for Life & Death Decisions, looking at the issues surrounding physician-assisted death.

Nancy Hixt was given the Ron Laidlaw Award for continuing coverage for her series on the shocking abuse some taxi drivers face from passengers.
