A young man is dead and another seriously injured after a car slammed into an apartment building in Toronto’s west end.

The force of the crash left a gaping hole in the building and threw the vehicle’s engine across the road at Jane Street & Humberview Road around 4 a.m Saturday.

Police said a 23-year-old male passenger was pronounced dead at the scene while a 22-year-old male driver was rushed to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

They said speed appears to be a factor in the crash and that charges may be laid following an investigation by traffic services.

The structural damage forced a partial evacuation of the building.
