A 7-year-old boy was taken to hospital after police say he was hit by a stray bullet at a residence east of Toronto late Thursday evening.
The shooting happened just before 11 p.m. ET on Colborne Street West near Centre Street North in Oshawa just 60 kilometres east of Toronto.
Durham Regional Police say a 23-year-old man, who is believed to have been the intended target, was standing outside an apartment when he was shot by an unknown suspect.
A stray bullet then struck the child who was inside the unit at the time.
Authorities say the boy was shot in the upper leg and the male in the abdomen.
Police say the man managed to make his way to hospital on his own before paramedics arrived. His condition is listed as serious but non-life threatening.
The boy was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police conducted a search in the area but were unable to locate any suspects.
Investigators are asking residents in the area to come forward with surveillance video.
