Halifax police charge Jason Matthew Halsey with 1st degree murder of Corey Lucas

HALIFAX – The list of people charged in a fatal double-shooting in Halifax continues to grow, with police charging another person with murder.

Halifax Regional Police arrested 27-year-old Jason Matthew Halsey in Clayton Park Wednesday morning and charged him with the first-degree murder of Corey Duane Lucas and the attempted murder William Bolliver.

Police arrested Halsey at 10:45 a.m. without incident. He’s due to appear in Halifax Provincial Court Thursday.

Lucas, 36, was shot and killed in an apartment at 2711 Clifton St. the evening of May 25, and 31-year-old Bolliver suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound after two men, one armed with a handgun, broke into the residence.

On June 25, police charged 20-year-old Dylan Peter Roach with first-degree murder and attempted murder and 27-year-old Jenna Karlene Piercy with being an accessory after the fact.

Roach is due back in court July 26.

Police arrested 27-year-old Simon Peter Dugas, of Sherwood Park, Alta., Monday morning at Halifax Stanfield International Airport. He was originally facing charges of first-degree murder and attempted murder, but those charges were withdrawn Wednesday and he now faces a charge of being an accessory after the fact.

Lucas’ murder was the sixth homicide of the year in Halifax Regional Municipality.
