Surrey homeowner slashed and robbed during break and enter

WATCH: A man in Surrey is lucky to be alive after being attacked while confronting three men who broke into his home early Wednesday morning. Rumina Daya has more details about the attack and what the victim’s son is telling Global News – Apr 20, 2016

A Surrey homeowner is in stable condition after being slashed in the chest and robbed early this morning during a break and enter on 62A Avenue.

The suspects then fled the scene in the homeowner’s car.

The victim, a 57-year-old man, was asleep when he heard the suspects rummaging through his drawers just before 4:30 a.m., according to his son. That’s when his father jumped one of the suspects before chasing them out the door. It was during the physical altercation that he was slashed in the chest.

“My dad turned around and I saw blood from [his chest] all the way down,” his son said. “I immediately ran in and called the police… [the knife] nearly missed his heart and made it in through his rib cage. He’s very lucky.”

The victim’s son said the experience has shaken him and put things into a different perspective.

“You think you’re safe and your doors are locked…”

Police said they believe three suspects were involved in the incident, two of which are Caucasian and on who is about 5’10” to 5’11” tall, who fled in the victim’s 2005 white Mini Cooper with a black top and BC licence plates BT6 75H.

The victim was taken to hospital, where he will remain overnight for observation.
