A 53-year-old has been charged with impaired driving after the vehicle he was in backed into a police cruising and pinned an officer in Vaughan late Tuesday evening.
A York Regional Police officer suffered a leg injury in the incident which took place just before midnight in front of a home on Rivermill Crescent near Bathurst and Major Mackenzie Drive.
Police say they responded to the scene after receiving a call about an unknown man who had parked his vehicle in a resident’s driveway.
Officers arrived to find a man asleep in the driver’s seat with the vehicle’s engine running with the belief that he was impaired.
The driver then awoke, put his vehicle in reverse and pinned an officer between two vehicles.
The officer was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and was later released.
The man, identified as Ramin Tahmasebi, was arrested on scene and charged with impaired driving causing bodily harm, dangerous operation causing bodily harm and demand by evaluation not complied with.
He is scheduled to appear in court May 12.
