Three men are facing second-degree murder charges in connection to the death of a Toronto journalist who was allegedly beaten and robbed after leaving a bar in 2015.
Zaher “Zack” Noureddine, 25, died after sustaining serious head injuries during an altercation with a group of three men on Dec. 30.
Police said the attack happened near Yonge Street just south of Eglinton Avenue shortly after midnight while Noureddine was returning to his car with a friend.
The suspects were witnessed fleeing the scene in a light-coloured four-door sedan following the incident.
Police say the assault was motivated by a robbery.
William Lordhu Cummins, 29, and Patrick Smith, 26, were arrested on April 13 and charged with one count each of robbery and second-degree murder.
The accused appeared in court on April 14.
A third man who is currently in police custody on other matters is also facing the same charges.
According to the HipHopCanada.com, Noureddine was a contributor for the online publication and was considered a “talented, honest and hard-working individual with huge aspirations.”
