A video of a mother shooting and taking a hammer to her kids’ phones because she’s tired of their disrespect and trouble has gone viral.

The woman, only identified online as ‘Southern Momma’ is seen in a video – uploaded on April 6 – holding a shotgun and denouncing her children’s behaviour online and to her.

“I hereby denounce the effects that social media have on my children, their disobedience and their disrespect,” the mother is heard in the video saying. “I refuse to be cursed, I refuse to be disobeyed. I take back my role as your parent.”

The footage even shows her children standing aside watching as their mother prepares to blow their cell phones into bits and pieces with the weapon in her hands.

And if that wasn’t enough, ‘Southern Momma’ then takes a sledgehammer and smashes the electronic devices even more.

“I refuse to have them influenced in negative ways, contacting people they don’t know, being involved in drama they don’t need to be in, and being in trouble in school for having phones out,” she said in the video.

According to CNN, teens – identified in the article as those between the ages of eight to 18 – spend nine hours a day online.

Another article by the same news organization states that 13-year-olds check their phones, on average, 100 times a day. The reason for the constant checking is to “see if their online posts [were] getting likes and comments,” and “they wanted to see if their friends [were] doing things without them.”
