Shannon Mackenzie is the franchise owner of the Original Bridal Swap, and she visited Global Calgary’s Morning Show on Monday to talk all about the event.

It’s the second time the show has come to Calgary after seven years in Vancouver. Mackenzie said interest only continues to grow, with Edmonton expecting its first stop in October.

Mackenzie described the event as geared towards “divas on a dime”, helping women who couldn’t otherwise afford their dream wedding buy from past brides. Women can buy necessities like the dress at half price or more, some still with tags on them.

“It’s one day, so you have it, you buy it this year at Bridal Swap, then next year you bring it back and sell again,” Mackenzie said.

Though the stock might be largely secondhand, Mackenzie said they make sure it’s not too retro.

“We do put a time limit on how long ago you can bring your wedding stuff; we usually try to keep it to five years,” Mackenzie said.
