WINNIPEG — The city of Winnipeg is tackling reports of brown water in the River Heights and Riverview neighbourhoods this weekend.
Residents complained of brown water flowing through their pipes, with a number of calls lodged to the city’s 311 service line.
According to the city’s Waste and Water Department, residents should not use discoloured water for purposes that require clean water, including “drinking, preparing food and beverages or laundry.”

A spokesperson from the city said there was “an interruption in the Manitoba Hydro power supply to the city’s Hurst Pumping Station just before 9 a.m.” on Saturday morning.
Discoloured water in Winnipeg’s aging infrastructure is often due to sediment in water pipes that has become dislodged from a change of flow.
