MONTREAL – Police are investigating after at least one gunshot was fired Saturday night, shattering a window in an apartment building in Rosemont.
At 11:15 p.m. Saturday, police received a 911 call about gunshots fired at the intersection of 19th Avenue and de Bellechasse Street.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found a gunshot hole in the window of a private residence in a building located at the intersection.
Initial reports led officers to believe that one or two suspects had taken refuge in the vicinity.
A wide perimeter was erected stretching from de Bellechasse Street to Rosemont Boulevard and from 21st Avenue westwards a few blocks.
Police briefly detained and questioned two men in their 20s but they were quickly released.
The perimeter was lifted at 4:30 a.m. Sunday, but canine units and crime scene analysts continued to scour the area for clues.
According to Abdullah Emran with Montreal police, no one was injured in the incident. Emran said officers patrolling the neighbourhood did not encounter any one with injuries and there were no reports of gunshot victims in any Montreal-area hospitals.
Police have ruled out any involvement on the part of the residents of the apartment that was struck by a bullet.
Emran said that the most likely scenario is a that a conflict outside the building led a suspect to discharge a firearm.
So far there are no suspects and no arrests have been made.
