Pedestrian in critical condition following collision on Saint-Denis Street

MONTREAL – A 66-year-old pedestrian was taken to hospital in critical condition after a collision with a car in the borough of Ville-Marie Saturday morning.

Police received a 9-1-1 call at 3:15 a.m. concerning a collision at the corner of de Maisonneuve Boulevard and Saint-Denis Street.

According to Abdullah Emran, spokesperson for Montreal police, the 27-year-old driver was stopped at a red light in the westbound direction on de Maisonneuve and was waiting to turn left onto Saint-Denis.

When the light turned green the driver started turning left and hit a pedestrian who was crossing against a red light on Saint-Denis.

The 66-year-old man was thrown to the ground and hit his head on the pavement.

“The pedestrian is in critical condition,” Emran said. “We fear for his life.”

The intersection was closed to traffic for several hours as officers investigated.

No arrests have been made. Emran said that speed and alcohol were ruled out as possible factors in the collision.
