Commuters were surprised to find themselves behind closed fare gates Friday afternoon, after Translink experienced a technical issue.
TransLink spokesperson Cheryl Ziola told Global News a fairly widespread glitch affected the majority of the gates across the system.

She said the problem was resolved after just a “few minutes,” but a tweet from Coquitlam Mayor Richard Stewart suggested the system-wide problem lasted about 30 minutes.
Other commuters took to social media to share their frustrations.
TransLink is expected to close all fare gates on Monday, April 4.
Ziola said the cause of the incident is unknown, but she explained TransLink has no plans to delay Monday’s full gate closure in light of what happened.
Although the issue has been resolved, Ziola was unsure how trapped commuters are supposed to exit the station in the case of a gate shut-down.
