WINNIPEG — RCMP have arrested a 58-year-old Winnipeg man for using social media to impersonate a police officer.
Thomas Hanaway created numerous social media accounts and also engaged in online forums using the name of an active police office who lives in Manitoba, RCMP said.
Officers began the investigation after receiving multiple complaints from people across North America. They executed a search warrant on Wednesday and charged him with impersonating a police officer and failing to comply with a probation order.
Hanaway appeared in court Thursday.
