Woman in hospital after vehicle crashes through St. Albert welcome sign

EDMONTON — STARS Air Ambulance was called to a crash on the north end of St. Albert Thursday morning after a vehicle crashed through one of the city’s welcome signs.

Emergency crews were called to the scene at around 7:15 a.m. The southbound lanes of Highway 2 were closed for a period of time Thursday morning while crews worked to clear the area.

RCMP said the vehicle was heading south on Highway 2 when it veered off the road and crashed into the sign.

A 34-year-old woman who was driving the vehicle was taken by STARS to an area hospital. She is in serious, but stable condition.

The highway has since reopened to traffic.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
