Vladimir Tchaikoun was badly beaten two weeks ago.
Who did it? He says it was Vancouver police officers and he claims they did so without cause.
“They punch me here and start beating me severely,” Tchaikoun said.
He said police knocked on his door at 7:30 p.m. on March 13 and asked for his wife. When he hesitated they forced their way in. The confrontation escalated to involve his wife and son.
“I was bleeding severely,” Tchaikoun said. “Someone sitting on me.”
Vancouver police acknowledge that Tchaikoun, an engineer who came to Canada from Ukraine in 1998, was injured. But their version of events certainly differs.
In an emailed statement, VPD Cst. Brian Montague said:
Tchaikoun, his son and wife were arrested and all three have been charged with assaulting a peace officer.
“I came to Canada because I believe Canada is the first country that promotes democracy, rights of the peoples,” he said.
Tchaikoun is now hiring a lawyer.
