The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) is looking into the in-custody death of a 58-year-old woman found unresponsive in a White Rock RCMP cell on Tuesday.
Mounties said the woman was arrested Friday on an outstanding warrant and subsequently remanded in custody to attend court on Monday.
They said officers called paramedics to assess the woman early Tuesday but she remained in custody. Hours later, a guard found the woman lying on the floor and unresponsive. Efforts to revive her weren’t successful.
The IIO was notified and is now leading the investigation.
