Saskatchewan Rush sweep Toronto Rock, clinch playoff spot

SASKATOON – Mark Matthews had two goals and four assists and Robert Church had a goal and five helpers as the Saskatchewan Rush downed the Toronto Rock 13-8 on Saturday in National Lacrosse League action. With the win, the Rush clinched a spot in the playoffs.

Dan Taylor, Ben McIntosh and Zack Greer each added a pair of goals for the Rush (9-3) while Curtis Knight, Jeff Cornwall, Ryan Dilks and Jeremy Thompson added the others.

Rob Hellyer led the Rock (3-9) with two goals and three assists. Turner Evans, Stephan Lablanc and Josh Sanderson had two goals apiece to round out the offence.

Saskatchewan’s Aaron Bold made 31 saves for the win. Brandon Miller stopped 40-of-53 shots for Toronto.

The Rush are back in action on April 2 when the Calgary Roughnecks are in Saskatoon.

Saskatchewan is currently tied with the Colorado Mammoth for top spot in the West Division. The two teams will meet for a regular season home-and-home matchup the weekend of April 15.
