A passenger jet landing in Oklahoma City on Wednesday had to land the craft in an almost sideways motion due to high winds. Only the pilot’s skill kept the plane’s landing from, well, going sideways.
“When we started going down, it got really bad,” said Kristen Toepfer a passenger on the flight.
“It felt like going back and forth and up and down, a little like a roller coaster,” Erica Carey told KFOR News.
“She (the flight attendant) came on the intercom and said ‘Everyone buckle up. Nobody walk around. Get in an upright position,” passenger Lisa Toepher said.
A KFOR News helicopter camera was able to catch the incredible landing. As the United Express airliner was about to touchdown at Will Rogers World Airport, it began to sway back-and-forth with the strong winds.
Airplanes landing in strong cross winds are a common occurrence in Oklahoma. United Express said their pilots are trained for those types of situations.
“I would like to say thank you to the pilot that did an amazing job landing,” Carey said.
