Rob Ford’s family has released a video tribute showing the former mayor in his prime.
Set to the Puff Daddy and Faith Evans’ song “I’ll be Missing You” — itself a tribute to a slain rapper — the highlight-reel video shows Ford embracing supporters and being lauded by his followers.
He’s seen posing for pictures, signing bobbleheads, dancing and telling a group of young people to get out and vote even if they don’t like him.
Several residents share their interactions with Ford, from how he helped a student get access to a school bus to excitedly meeting him in a run-down apartment building.
“That guy’s a real hero,” one says. “He promised to save taxpayers’ money, and he did,” acclaims another.
Ford died Tuesday after an 18-month battle with cancer.

The public has one last chance to say goodbye as his body will lay in repose at city hall Monday and Tuesday — a rare honour for a municipal politician.
On Wednesday Ford’s casket will travel in a funeral procession to St. James Cathedral. A celebration of life will be held that night at the Toronto Congress Centre.
His family has set up a website, rememberingrobford.com, letting well-wishers share their thoughts.
