A woman and young girl were both taken to hospital with serious injuries after a T-bone collision south of Calgary Thursday evening.
Emergency crews were called to the two-vehicle crash around 5:30 p.m. on Highway 2 at 338 Avenue, about five kilometres northeast of Okotoks.
RCMP said a southbound pick-up truck collided with a four-door sedan that was attempting to cross east, in order to get on to the northbound lanes. A woman believed to be in her 30s and a preschooler were in the car.
AHS said the woman was airlifted by STARS Air Ambulance to the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary in potentially critical condition with possible internal injuries.
The child was driven by ambulance to the Alberta Children’s Hospital in serious, but not life-threatening condition.
Their car was damaged extensively in the crash.
The driver of the truck was not hurt. Traffic was affected in the area.
The road was bare at the time of the collision, according to police. Weather conditions were poor in the Calgary area Thursday evening, but Mounties said the rain didn’t begin until after the crash happened. Hail and thunder were reported west of the city in the Bragg Creek area.
