Toronto police have bucked the trend among city employees on this year’s sunshine list, adding 500 more names to the top-paying roster while the number of other six-figure municipal workers shrank.

A Global News analysis of the sunshine list of city employees earning more than $100,000 shows 4,645 entries for the Toronto Police Service.

That’s up from 4,125 in last year’s edition.

While there were more big earners among the ranks of police (including civilian employees), that wasn’t the case for the rest of city-paid employees.

Their numbers were down by around 400 to 6,731.

At the top of the police list? Chief Mark Saunders, who made $292,000 in salary and benefits.

Constables had a good year. There were an additional 333 of them on the list, for a total of 2,000 — making them the largest single type of police on the list.

Once again a majority of police — six in 10 — earned more than $100,000. The force has 7,600 uniformed and civilian employees in permanent positions.

Meanwhile, city manager Joe Pennachetti was top among municipal civil servants with $403,000. The heads of the TTC and Toronto Community Housing weren’t far behind, earning $355,00 and $330,000, respectively. The city has 49,000 employees.

The 2015 edition of the sunshine list was released Thursday.
