Winnipeg man found guilty of first-degree murder in the 2011 death of Gina Swanson

WINNIPEG — A jury has convicted a Winnipeg man in the murder of 33-year-old single mother, Gina Swanson.

Schuyler Vanwissen, 30, was found guilty of first-degree murder Wednesday evening after the May 2011 murder inside Swanson’s home.

The 12-member jury only took half the day to determine his fate after a three week trial.

Vanwissen tied Swanson up and brutally sexually assaulted her, then stabbed her five times in the chest.

Her father, a retired Winnipeg police officer found her naked with a knife still in her chest.

Her emotional family read victim impact statements after Vanwissen was found guilty.

He was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 25 years.
