Another well-wisher, Saskatoon Mayor Don Atchison reflected on a fond memory with the councillor too.

“I only had the opportunity to meet Mayor Ford once in Ottawa. We had a delightful conversation when we were talking about hockey. He loved hockey. And the movie Slap Shot, we were talking about that and how I played on that particular team and had been offered an opportunity to play in the movie and he went, ‘Oh! Really?’ and he just got really excited.”

“I said ‘we’ll get together and we’ll have a lunch and we’ll talk about it then. We’ve got business to do here today’ and unfortunately that never occurred,” he said.
