WINNIPEG — In a few months, visitors can step back into time and come face-to-face with life-sized dinosaurs at the Assiniboine Park Zoo.
Officials unveiled the new “Dinosaurs Alive” exhibit Tuesday at the Zoo, which will be up-and-running this summer.
It will feature 15 life size “animatronic” dinosaurs from Jurassic and Cretaceous period. Creatures such as the Tyrannosaurus Rex and Triceratops will move around and create sounds, making an interactive exhibit for children.
“I am very excited about this because I grew up loving dinosaurs,” Shane Pratt of the Assiniboine Park Zoo said. “Kids can learn to be paleontologists and discover bones with the exhibit.”
Officials said the “prehistoric playground” will only be around for a limited time.
The Assiniboine Park Zoo recently lost two rare Asiatic lions. The twin brothers were moved overseas in an attempt to help save the endangered species. The lions arrived in Winnipeg in the spring of 2012.

The Zoo said at the time it was working on potential options for the exhibit space vacated by the lions.
