Vincent Belcourt never expected to hear police knock on his door with devastating news on the morning he and his wife of 26 years were about to move to their new home in Vancouver.

Fifty-seven-year-old Josie Belcourt was killed while crossing King George Boulevard in the 8300-block on the morning of March 14. She was struck by a car that fled from the scene. She was taken to hospital, but passed away from her injuries.

That morning, the Belcourts had all of their stuff packed up and ready to go for the move. It was supposed to be their last trip back to their old place in Surrey.

“My wife was very special to me,” said emotional Belcourt. “She was basically my life and my support.”

He says while he realizes the driver likely didn’t mean to kill his wife, it was a cowardly act to run away from the scene and not seek help.

“I’m asking you to come forward and bring closure to my family.”

Belcourt says his wife was a dedicated member of the community who helped the homeless and people with mental disabilities.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“When she walked into the room, she could make everybody smile.”

Josie Belcourt has family in the Philippines, who, her husband says, are devastated and pleading for justice.

“I miss her so much. I can’t say enough about how much this changed my life,” said Belcourt.

Investigators now believe that the suspect vehicle may be a 2010 or 2011 grey Honda CRV.

They have released a video of the suspect car, just moments before the fatal collision.

Meanwhile, the investigation continues. Police say they have thoroughly canvassed the area, spoken to witnesses, accessed databases and liaised with ICBC.

It’s not clear how fast the vehicle was going, and police don’t have the licence plate number.

“We are appealing to the public for any information regarding this vehicle, anyone who may have witnessed something, or know something about the driver or the CRV,” said Sgt. Alanna Dunlop with Surrey RCMP. “We need to locate this vehicle.”

Anyone with more information is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or Crime Stoppers, if they wish to remain anonymous, at 1-800-222-TIPS or solvecrime.ca.
