Manitoba Election 2016: Riding Mountain riding

Summary: There is no incumbent is this riding as PC MLA Leanne Rowat is not seeking re-election.

Boundaries: Riding Mountain is located in the southwestern region of the province. Its western boundary is the Manitoba-Saskatchewan border, to the north its bordered by Riding Mountain National Park,

Dauphin borders it to the north by Dauphin, to the south by Brandon and Arthur-Virden, and to the west by the province of Saskatchewan. Communities in the riding include Minnedosa, Rivers, and Russell.

Last Election: The PC’s Leanne Rowat defeated the NDPs with 4,465 the votes, 58 per cent to 34 per cent.

History: Riding Mountain is a newer riding made up mostly of the old riding of Russell and parts of Minnedosa. It’s historically conservative, as the area has been held by a PC MLA since 1958. Although the NDP had made some movement forward here in the last few elections, it is generally not regarded as a swing seat.

Progressive Conservative: Greg Nesbitt, newspaper publisher and long time Shoal Lake business owner 

Liberal: Jordan Fleury, corrections officer

Green Party: Mark Olenick, welder
