Update: Seniors Night at Balfour Collegiate saved after crowdfunding page launched

REGINA – The annual student-run Seniors Night at Balfour Collegiate has been saved.

The yearly event gives seniors a night of fun and entertainment with students, free of charge.

Organizers say its funding was cut after the school board trimmed the school’s budget.

Students had launched a crowd-funding campaign to save the event. They were worried about what will happen if they don’t reach their goal of $2,600.

“Truly it would be heartbreaking, not just for the guests but for the staff and the students. Usually there are over 150 students alone that participate and usually we have around 200-300, last year it was a little over 300 seniors that attended,” Co-organizer Raeleen Fehr-Rose said.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

But Saturday, the online crowdfunding campaign received four separate donations of $500, exceeding the target goal of $2,600.

“We had donations as small as five dollars and as large as the two thousand dollars and every person who contacted me about it or posted in support about it through social media spoke to the value they saw in this event”, Fehr-Rose said.

As of Sunday night, donations totaled $3,043 USD.
