Environment Canada confirms tornado touched down in southern Ontario

A survey team for Environment Canada has confirmed that an EF-1 tornado travelled three kilometres, damaging three grain bins and a barn near Mount Forest in southern Ontario.

The national weather agency says the tornado touched down about seven kilometres northeast of Clifford at about 4 p.m. Wednesday and peak wind speeds were estimated at 170 kilometres per hour.

Global News meteorologist Anthony Farnell described the tornado as about 200 metres wide.

No injuries were reported.
