CT scanner repaired at Winnipeg hospital, after dozens of appointments cancelled

WINNIPEG — A special CT scanner is back up and running at Winnipeg’s Health Sciences Centre after a power outage last week forced the cancellation of dozens of appointments.

Staff from the University of Manitoba – which operates the building – worked through the weekend to restore power after a sewer backup led to an outage that caused about 48 appointments to be put on hold.

A custom-made component required to fix the PET CT scanner was installed on Saturday and patients needing diagnostic imaging arebeing rescheduled over extended hours this week.

The scanner is used to detect and monitor conditions including epilepsy, Alzheimer’s and heart disease.
