Brittany Kennell, 1st Canadian on The Voice, to sing National Anthem at Habs game

MONTREAL – Beaconsfield native Brittany Kennell, who holds the title of first Canadian to have ever auditioned on reality competition The Voice, is about to fulfill her lifelong dream of singing the national anthem at a Habs game.

Kennell told Global News last week she had always dreamed of singing O Canada at a Montreal Canadiens home game.

On Monday, she called Global News to say, thanks to an article on globalnews.ca, the Habs reached out to her.

“It was, like, one hour after Global posted the article,” she said excitedly.

“They said they saw your tweet and wanted to make it happen. It’s so exciting, I can’t believe it.”

The 27-year-old Beaconsfield native became the first Canadian ever to audition on the American show when she sang Sheryl Crow’s Strong Enough.

Her performance wowed the judges, giving her a solid slot on #TeamBlake.

Kennell lives in Nashville now, but will be back in her hometown from March 21 to April 7 to spend some time with her family.

“They invited me to sing on March 26 at the Habs-Rangers game,” she told Global News.

It’s a little piece of home that Kennell plans to take back to the U.S. with her.

“It’s not easy being away from the family and there’s been some really tough days when I’m just about ready to pack up and go home and so this is just giving me a connection to home,” she said.

The next step for Kennell is to make it through the battle rounds on The Voice.
