Environment Canada issued a special weather statement for parts of central Alberta Monday morning. The weather agency said a band of heavy, wet snow is forecast to form between Edmonton and Red Deer.
Visibility may be quickly reduced to less than 200 metres with rapidly accumulating snow, the statement read. The agency said the amount of snow could vary depending on location, with localized amounts of five to 10 centimetres.

Environment Canada said the exact location of where the band would form was unclear, however at some point it is expected to intersect Highway 2. The snow is expected to move east as the afternoon progresses.
While the snow may accumulate quickly, it’s likely to also melt fairly quickly because temperatures will be slightly above the freezing mark.
The weather statement was in effect for the following regions:
- Drayton Valley – Devon – Rimbey – Pigeon Lake
- Leduc – Camrose – Wetaskiwin – Tofield
- Red Deer – Ponoka – Innisfail – Stettler
