EDMONTON – A 27-year-old man has died and another remains in critical condition after a three-vehicle collision in northeast Edmonton early Saturday morning.
The crash happened near 167 Avenue and 59A Street at about 1:30 am.
A Chevrolet Cavalier was struck from behind by a Dodge Avenger travelling at a high rate of speed, Police said Saturday. The force of that collision sent the Cavalier spinning into the eastbound lanes, where it collided with an oncoming Mitsubishi Lancer.
The lone male passenger of the Cavalier was thrown from the vehicle and was pronounced dead on scene by paramedics, after several attempts to administer first aid.
Meanwhile, the driver was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and is in critical condition.
The Cavalier collided a second time with the westbound Avenger, before both vehicles came to a halt on a nearby boulevard.
The driver and passenger of the Lancer were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, while the driver of the Avenger suffered minor injuries.
Police said it is still early in their investigation and no charges have been laid.
