An elderly woman, known as the ‘Internet Black Widow’ is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth court next week.
Melissa Ann Shepard is set to be released from prison after serving more than three years for trying to poison her husband while on their honeymoon.
Shepard was convicted of administering a noxious thing with intent, and failing to provide the necessaries of life after her husband of only a few days fell ill in Cape Breton, N.S.

The crown is trying to impose limits on Shepard before her release. Essentially, they want to impose a peace bond on her, which would allow authorities to monitor the woman, who is now in her 80’s, once she is free.
Shepard has a lengthy criminal history and has been convicted previously in three incidents that saw either psychological harm or physical harm to her victims.

In the early 1990’s, Shepard ran over her second husband on a deserted road and didn’t report the incident for hours. She was convicted of manslaughter, despite being initially charged with murder in his death.
Shepard’s third husband died of an apparent pre-existing medical condition and his remains cremated before an autopsy or toxicology tests could be done.
