WATCH: Final Four is set at Provincial High School Hockey Championships

WINNIPEG — And then there were four. The six team field was chopped by two after the first day of competition at the AAAA Provincial High School Hockey Championships. Both rural teams were knocked out with all four of the Winnipeg High School Hockey League entries advancing to the semifinals.

The city champion Oak Park Raiders defeated the Morden Thunder 7-2. But the Raiders were upset in their next game losing to the St. Paul’s Crusaders 4-3. The Crusaders went through the round robin undefeated to win Pool A. They also beat Morden 4-2 to eliminate the Thunder with two losses.

The Vincent Massey Trojans who were the runners-up in the city league won both their games to win Pool B. They pulled out a 5-4 overtime victory against the Selkirk Royals and edged the Dauphin Clippers 1-0. Selkirk won their second game in overtime as they defeated Dauphin 2-1. The Clippers were ousted with a pair of defeats.

One semifinal is a rematch of the city championship series with the champions from Oak Park up against the Trojans starting at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday at the St. James Civic Centre. The other semifinal matchup pits St. Paul’s against Selkirk. That game begins at 3:30 p.m.

The championship game is scheduled for Monday night at 7:00 p.m. at the St. James Civic Centre.
