2 men to stand trial in deaths of family in central Alberta house fire

RED DEER, Alta. – Two men charged in the deaths of a couple and their daughter in a fire in central Alberta more than two years ago will go to trial.

The bodies of Gordon, Sandra and Monica Klaus were found in the charred remains of a home in Castor on Dec. 8, 2013.

Jason Klaus – who is Gordon and Sandra’s son and Monica’s brother – and Joshua Frank were charged eight months later with first-degree murder and arson.

Alberta Justice said the preliminary hearing for the pair wrapped up in Red Deer on Thursday and the judge decided there was enough evidence to send the case to trial.

Evidence at hearing cannot be published due to a publication ban.

Lawyers are now working on setting dates, and will return to court next month.
