After looking at the circumstances and the damage, it is hard to believe that there were no serious injuries after a semi-truck ended up crashing into a building in Airdrie.
According to Airdrie RCMP Media Liason, Constable Jason Curtis, a semi truck was travelling southbound on Highway 2 in Airdrie around 12:20 p.m. Wednesday, when it crossed two lanes of traffic, went over the median, crossed the northbound lanes of Highway 2, hit a light standard, went through a fence and, finally, smashed into a commercial building.
“With the amount of traffic on Highway 2 at any given time, as well as this roadway, it is absolutely amazing that there were no serious injuries,” Curtis said.
EMS initially believed a gas line had ruptured and that up to four or five people were injured. After assessing the scene they discovered two people from the building with minor injuries. They were treated in hospital.
The driver of the truck, a male in his 50’s, was trapped in his cab until he could be rescued. He suffered only minor injuries and was taken to the Peter Lougheed Hospital.
RCMP have confirmed that they do not believe any sort of impairment was to blame for the crash.
