Vancouver councillor wants at least half of committee members to be women

Vancouver may soon follow the federal government’s footsteps on gender equality by requiring at least half of all committee members to be women.

Councillor Andrea Reimer plans to introduce the motion to mark International Women’s Day on Tuesday.

Mayor Gregor Robertson has indicated he’ll support the motion.

Reimer’s motion also calls for a review of how the city funds subsidized housing and social policy grants to make sure women and girls are getting an equal share of services.
