Vancouver Police ask additional witnesses of nightclub assault to come forward

There is a renewed plea from the Vancouver Police for any witnesses of a violent assault in a downtown nightclub to come forward.

On Sunday night, a 17-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in a bathroom at the Encore Dance Club.

She was rushed to hospital with a number of injuries.

The incident is now before the courts.

A 16-year-old boy has since been charged with aggravated sexual assault and forcible confinement in connection with the incident. He remains in police custody.

He is also facing a new sexual assault charge, following a separate complaint. It’s believed the second incident happened in October, 2015.

Dave Kershaw of Encore Dance Club said the incident occurred during an alcohol-free grad event for a high school on the North Shore. He said nothing like this has ever happened at the club before and they are cooperating with the investigation.

Investigators have spoken to a number of witnesses, but believe there are many others out there who have information to share.

Anyone who was at the Encore Dance Club Sunday night and has information is asked to call the VPD Sex Crimes Unit tip line at 604-717-0602.
