Breakfast Buzz: Should employers give women time off during their periods?

SASKATOON – A company in the United Kingdom has gained international attention after deciding to start a discussion about a “Period Policy.” Essentially, this would give guidelines for women taking time off because of menstrual cramps.

Coexist, based in Bristol, U.K., describes the idea as a way to “begin a conversation about flexibility in the workplace to support the natural cycles of women and men.” They will host a seminar to talk about the controversial subject.

Bex Baxter, one of the directors at Coexist, tells The Bristol Post :”I have managed many female members of staff over the years and I have seen women at work who are bent over double because of the pain caused by their periods.

“Despite this, they feel they cannot go home because they do not class themselves as unwell.”
