A family from Archer County, Tex. had the chance to hear their son’s heart beat for the first time since his fatal accident in 2014.

Shon Blair, 17, died after a car crash in January of 2014, however, his organs were able to save several lives, including Mike Wendt. A man from Texas who had been waiting nine months to find a donor and receive a heart transplant.

And after more than two years since Blair’s passing, the victim’s family met with the transplant recipient on what would have been Blair’s 20 birthday.

“It’s real now,” Bobby Blair, the father of Shon Blair, told KFDX. “To know that [Mike] got my son’s heart and he’s living because of it. We are so blessed that he got it.”

Blair’s sister, Broen, told KDFX that even though she tragically lost her brother in a car accident, something good was able to come from it.

“It’s been a little over two years since we lost him, but it’s also been two years since we gained a lot of family and knowing that, it kinda fills my heart up in a place that Shon loved.”
