BC neighbourhood wins title of best tap water in the world

A small B.C. neighbourhood has been given the title of best tap water in the world.

Clearbrook in Abbotsford came in first in the municipal water winners in Canada. This is its fourth gold medal in ten years. Clearbrook has also received a silver medal and a bronze medal in the event.

The top prize for best municipal water in the United States went to Eldorado Springs in Colorado.

The awards were handed out at the Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting event on Saturday. Ten judges spend hours tasting and selecting water from 18 U.S. states, seven Canadian provinces and five foreign countries.

Water enthusiasts from all over the world gather in West Virginia for the awards show and water is judged in a number of categories.

In Clearbrook, the water from the tap comes from the groundwater that is extracted from the Abbotsford-Sumas aquifer.

“It was another wonderful year for the longest running and largest water tasting in the world,” said Berkeley Springs’ perennial water master, Arthur von Wiesenberger, in a release. “Berkeley Springs is the Academy Awards of water.”

The waters were rated for attributes such as appearance, aroma, taste, mouth feel and aftertaste.
