Woman charged with attempted murder in 1989 taxi driver assault

Toronto police say they have made an arrest in connection to an assault of a taxi driver who suffered life-threatening injuries 27 years ago.

The alleged incident took place on Oct. 28, 1989 at 12:03 a.m. when a 42-year-old taxi driver was assaulted with a weapon after he picked up two men and a woman in the area of Park Vista Drive and Dawes Road.

Police say the driver eventually stopped his vehicle, but then lost control and struck several parked cars before coming to a rest on the embankment of a swimming pool.

A female suspect was arrested on Feb. 13 after police said they reopened the investigation in the fall of 2015.

Dale Hoherty, 60, has been charged with one count of attempted murder.

Police say they are still looking to identify two male suspects involved in the assault.
