Man pursues house arrest after guilty plea to sexually assaulting his granddaughters

A defence lawyer for an 86-year-old Saskatchewan man who pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting his two young granddaughters decades ago has told a judge a jail sentence wouldn’t be appropriate.

Pete Therrien from Willow Bunch admitted to sexually assaulting the girls in the 1980s and 90s.

The Crown is seeking a two-year jail sentence, but the defence is asking for two years under house arrest, saying Therrien is old and has mental health issues.

The judge will announce his decision July 30th. At his trial, Therrien admitted to sexually assaulting the girls over a 13-year period starting in the 1980s.
