CALGARY- Condo residents woke up to a massive fire in their building early Saturday.
It broke out just before 3 a.m. on Hunterhorn Road and 64 Avenue northeast.
June McFarlane lives in the unit next to the one damaged by fire and was evacuated from the building.
“I heard something. I just saw embers flying in between the building,” McFarlane said.
“I came around, and the whole deck was in flames and the one bedroom was in flames.”
McFarlane said a Good Samaritan helped evacuate the unit on fire, before crews arrived.
“The man who lives there has some medical issues and it’s hard for him to get out, so the young man pulled him out and got him away.”
Fire officials said two occupants of the affected unit managed to get out safely.
No injuries were reported.
The damage was significant. The people who live in the unit that was damaged won’t be allowed back in.
Fire officials said an outside deck and fence caught fire and the flames spread inside.
There is no word yet on what caused the fire.
