The Special Investigations Unit says 39-year-old Jamie Payne was hurt during what it calls an “interaction” with the officer en route to the police station.

The SIU says Payne was placed in a cell but was later taken to hospital after he repeatedly complained about the injury.

Const. Matt Lee is charged with assault causing bodily harm.

He is due to appear in a Brampton court on June 18.
