Officer 728 found guilty of assault in violent arrest

MONTREAL – A Montreal police officer has been found guilty of assault in relation to a violent arrest in October 2012.

Stéfanie Trudeau, better known by her badge number 728, was caught on cellphone video arresting Serge Lavoie in a stairwell on Papineau Avenue in Montreal.

The video showed Trudeau using excessive force to arrest Lavoie after he was spotted drinking beer on the street.

In his two hour address, Judge Daniel Bédard said he didn’t believe the police officer’s version of the facts.
