A 23-year-old man who pleaded guilty to carrying a concealed weapon and then threatened a Toronto subway operator with a knife has been sentenced to 87 days in prison.
The incident happened on Dec. 29 when the man, who was spotted smoking a cigarette and drinking alcohol at Bloor-Yonge Station, was approached by an operator and told to leave.
It was at that point the man pulled a knife from his backpack and threatened the operator before leaving, the Toronto Transit Commission said in a statement.
Police and TTC Special Constables managed to arrest the man a short time later.
In addition to his prison sentence, the man identified as Tyrell Brown was also placed on 12-month probation.
The TTC says one employee on average is assaulted every day. The assaults range from punches, to slaps, to spitting and threats.
